be_anno | minimal and conceptual

Be_anno is a contemporary, productive and non-conformist art concept performed by minimal belgian artist, interior architect and designer Anno. Initiated in 2003 in New York City, Anno has been active in Brussels, New York and Dubai. Her current work, motivated by thought-provoking influences, is an ongoing experimentation of oneself whilst interacting with external circumstances.

Anno had her first solo exhibition [Black Light Soul] at la Galerie Nationale | Alserkal Avenue, Dubai in September 2015. The show was a successful achievement with a gratifying feedback from the public.

New sculptural work is currently part of the group show exhibition [Face to Face] at La Galerie Nationale | Alserkal Avenue, Dubai from March 14 until May 14, 2016.

Anno alternates working sculpture and painting as two distinct languages: an interpretation of experienced emotions related to human interactions with external environments. Today’s work is based on black monochrome processed on selected objects as a form of introspection and annihilation of useless appearance. An exploration of the emptiness and irrelevant needs as an ultimate quest of simplicity. An ongoing process that would eventually implies new vista.

In the case of work on canvas, the intention is to initiate an extra dimension by using transparency and distanced backsides to experiment the work from the inside. The approach carries the spectator to an extreme and elusive darkness in the case of black, while on white walls, intensity arises from natural light and uncontrolled shadows.
Monochrome objects, partially or fully processed, are experimenting the absence of any comfortable references by reaching an ultimate neutralization. However, the initial essence of the object is intentionally remaining.
While other works like black installations considers temporal statement, elapsing time is also referred in some of the work like photographs, videos and container-containing objects as a reciprocity of existence.
